This book offers great information about the history and the spiritual traditions in regards to Reiki symbols. The Reiki Symbols book also increases one’s own knowledge of the background and development of Reiki symbols. As a Reiki Master I find it to be an invaluable reference.

By far, this is the best Reiki book in print. Walter Lubeck goes into detail on everything anyone who is a Reiki practitioner needs to know. The detail on the symbols and the history behind them gives one insight into how to better use Reiki and how to better understand why we do what we do with Reiki. I am a Reiki Master/Instructor and there were a lot of questions left unanswered by my instructor which she probably didn’t know how to answer. This book answers them all. I cannot put the book down. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Reiki. I intend to use information from this book in my classes to help other Reiki practitioners understand Reiki and its uses more fully. Thank you, Walter Lubeck, for providing the much-needed answers to my Reiki questions!

This fat book goes way beyond expectations; historical and multi-lingual, multi-cultural references and explanations are given for sacred symbols and the chants associated with them.

I am recommending that my Level Two students not get entangled with this until they are really familiar and competent, working with the knowledge they’ve already received…then to pick this up and eat it in small bites.

As for my Master Level students, I am putting this on their recommended reading list. It can certainly be read straight through, if one is a reincarnated historian, but can also be used very valuably as a specific reference gold mine!

    In a word, FABULOUS!

If you are a Reiki practitioner who has an academic mind-set, or one who is interested in research, you will be glad to have this book in your library, otherwise it’s not going to be a book you go to again and again in terms of technique or your practice.

It is difficult to follow, and very meandering in its approach to some of the information shared. This may be due, in part, to the fact that one of the author’s writing is translated into English, and complicated further in that the subject matter is about Japanese and Chinese language concepts and history. That being said, I still found it of interest. However, I am appalled by the amount of errors in the book’s copy; it seems that it didn’t have a competent editor/proof reader assigned to it. So, I am disappointed in Lotus Press/Shangri-La for allowing this book to come to the public with errors that anyone could have found and should have been corrected.

There is significant background here that will make the threads of ancestry and ties to great wisdom more apparent- especially in terms of the symbols. Will it make you a better practitioner? Perhaps not, but if you can plow your way through the stiffer parts, it might make it easier to answer some of the questions we are asked all the time about Reiki and from where it comes. Namaste’ to all of the seekers, believers, healthy skeptics, and hopeful out there.

In an effort to deepen my knowledge and understanding of Reiki, I have studied a number of different variations. It has been a very interesting undertaking and I have enjoyed my studies thoroughly. Nonetheless, I have often noticed and wondered about slight differences in the way certain traditional symbols are written, differential translations of those symbols, or slight variations in the instructions for Reiki practice. Do these slight modifications matter? Does Reiki work by intention alone? What did Master Usui actually teach? Is the Reiki energy that I make use of the same as the original?

The Big Book of Reiki Symbols is an amazing reference for any Reiki practitioner that wants to delve deeper into the meaning of Reiki. At 671 pages, this book is quite a commitment, one well worth the effort I might add. As I found myself entranced in the pages, I gained an extraordinary sense of respect, insight, and understanding about what we do as practitioners. I’ve noticed that now I take more care and really appreciate the gift when I work.

I highly suggest taking lots of notes and having a good supply of post-it-notes to bookmark pages that you want to study in more detail. Believe me, there will be plenty. My copy looks like a bit like a porcupine.
